Happiness is Vidal

What's happened?
Tonbridge Angels 2 - 2 Dulwich Hamlet

Thank f*ck for that.

Phil Oliver Kahn Wilson had already made one miraculous save before Tonbridge took the lead in the 18th minute through Marvin Williams. Williams ghosted in between Frazer Shaw and Ethan Pinnock to cushion a long diagonal pass on his chest before lobbing the bouncing ball over Phil and into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, Dulwich were level. Jordan Hibbert, again starting in place of Michael Abnett, exchanged passes with Luke Wanadio down the right wing before whipping a beautiful cross to the back post. Harry Ottaway couldn't miss - he planted a header past Billy Bishop in goal. 1-1.

With DHFC nerves increasing by the second, Dean McDonald entered the fray in the 71st minute. Less than sixty seconds later, he'd assisted Dulwich's second goal. McDonald collected an Ottaway flick-on before playing a perfectly-weighted through-ball to Xavier Vidal. Vidal cut inside with his first touch (the only way I know how to describe this is a (Cristiano) Ronaldo chop) before rifling a left-footed finish low past the keeper's left hand from the edge of the box. Dulwich were in the playoffs. Last season wasn't going to repeat itself.

Or was it? With just 5 minutes remaining, Matt Drage was penalised for what we can only assume was a tug of the shirt on Tonbridge's number eleven, roughly twenty-five yards from goal. On-loan forward Mitchell Pinnock lined up the free-kick himself and set about beautifully curling the ball into Wilson's top right-hand corner. 2-2. Time to sweat.

We'll be honest, the last 7/8 minutes are a total blur. Memories of last season's final game of the season at home to Kingstonian came flooding back and many DHFC fans couldn't watch. Mercifully, the final whistle came, Dulwich had grabbed the penultimate playoff spot and Tonbridge had avoided a second-consecutive relegation. Great day all round.

As predicted, Dulwich's playoff opponents shall be Margate. More on that later.

What's next?
Margate v Dulwich Hamlet - Playoff Semi-Final
At some point in the next seven days, Dulwich will travel to the Kentish coast for their playoff game against Margate. For those who aren't aware, both Ryman Premier Division playoff semi-finals have been postponed. This is due to a charge brought by the FA against Enfield Town for 'playing an ineligible player who should have been suspended'. Enfield have been deducted 3 points - meaning Met Police take their playoff spot. As this decision was deliberated over, Enfield's playoff semi-final against Hendon was postponed. Subsequently, Dulwich's playoff semi-final against Margate suffered the same fate.

Read more here.

We wait to hear from the Ryman League when the two playoff games will be played. We'll of course keep you all updated via social media.

The Dulwich Hamlet Supporters' Trust (DHST) have written an open letter to the FA and the Ryman League regarding the playoff postponements. Read it here.
